Pieter Pieterszen van Nest was probably born before 1627 at Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Nov 1680. No such child has been found. Pieter Van Nest's eldest
daughter, Sytje, was usually recorded as Jesina and variations thereof.

came from Utrecht, Netherlands to New Amsterdam in 1647. In the earlier
records his name is often written as "Menist" or "Meinst." On 17 Aug
1654 he and Gerrit Jansen Roos, both carpenters, sued Jan Coopal for the
balance due them on a house they were building for him. He was a member
of the New Amsterdam Dutch Church before 1660 and a note besides his
name shows that he removed to the Wallabout (in Brooklyn on Long
Island). Some of his children moved to Somerset County, New Jersey.

By Feb 1657, Pieter van Nest
had moved to "Walebocht," a part of Breuckelen, Long Island. In 1663 he
and other "neighbors and inhabitants of the village of Breuckelen"
petitioned the Director-General and Council of New Netherlands to erect a
new village "near Breuckelen." This was granted and on 26 May 1663 he
petitioned to be allowed to settle on the new property, which was granted. Unknown

Pieter Pieterszen was placed on the roll of "small burghers" in New
Netherlands. He was a carpenter and was received into the Carpenter's
Guild. Ibid., page 182. [A burgher was a rank or title of a privileged citizen of medieval towns in early modern Europe. Burghers formed the pool from which city officials could be drawn, and their immediate families formed the social class of the medieval bourgeoise.]

wife "Judith Van Este," appears as the head of household on the Brooklyn
census taken in about that year. who died on 20 March 1697.
